In primary school, I took a green tea swiss roll to school, only to be playfully teased by my friends who shouted, "Ewwww, green food." Fast forward to 2015, green tea, or specifically matcha is used almost like a prefix to anything on the menu, and no longer does anyone tease. Green food is everywhere, and it's en vogue.
One of the cafes in Sydney well known for their use of matcha is Cre Asion. Located in a small alleyway off Alberta St (map), they have everything from matcha lattes and swiss rolls, to macarons and souffles. Have friends who don't like matcha? Cre Asion also does food that isn't green (melts/sandwiches), and drinks of the brown caffeinated kind, amongst other items. It's a small joint; the seats are few, and the tables are low, but that's the beauty of this cafe. It provides a wonderful respite from the hustle of George and Pitt, where you're busy fighting the human wave that near crushes you. Just a tip: Take friends. You'll want to try more than one dessert. Happy weekend!
